Accidents Near Utica Sends Six To The Hospital

Posted by wlpo on June 20, 2009

Things started at 7:30 when deputies say Christopher Varney of Ottawa rear ended Zachary Moss of Oglesby at the intersection of Route 6th and East 9th Road, right next to Cajun Connection. Moss and his passenger Siobhan Barry of Peru were taken to IVCH. Varney’s passengers, Cara Stricklin of Ottawa and her baby were also taken to IVCH.

Varney meanwhile was arrested for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, following too close, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving uninsured. He was released with a court date.

As emergency crews were on scene handling that accident, investigators say Dennis McConnville of Peru smashed into a tow truck trying to remove one of the cars from the earlier accident. Two more children were taken to IVCH after this crash. McConnville refused treatment even though he was cut out of his truck.

McConnville was arrested for DUI, speeding, failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident and violating “Scott’s Law”. That’s the law where you’re supposed to put as much distance between yourself and stopped emergency vehicles as possible.
