La Salle County Teen Is Dead From Swine Flu

If you didn’t take Swine Flu serious before, this may have you stop and listen.

An 18 year old woman in La Salle County has died from the virus. The La Salle County Health Department confirmed the death this afternoon.

Public health officials say the woman had underlying medical conditions on top of getting Swine Flu. The woman’s name and hometown isn’t being released.

La Salle County has four other confirmed cases of Swine Flu including a 10 year old girl.

Governor Coming To Area

He may not ride into town on a motorcycle, but Governor Pat Quinn is expected in Marseilles tomorrow.

Quinn is expected to take part in the ceremony tomorrow afternoon at the Middle East Conflicts Wall Memorial. It’s part of the 7th annual Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run.

Quinn has been a longtime advocate for veterans. Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson may also make an appearance. Her stepson was hurt last summer in Afghanistan.

Child says they were offered a ride in Peru

Don’t talk to strangers- some good advice to share with your children. Police in Peru say a 10 year old boys claims someone driving a white van offered to give him a ride Thursday night.
It happened around 9:30pm in the 1700 block of 7th Street in Peru.
The boy claims the man told him he was sent there by his mother. Police are investigating.

Annual Freedom Run returns to Marseilles

The city of Marseilles will swell to upwards of 20,000 people tomorrow.
The 7th annual Illinois Motorcycle Freedem Run is Saturday. Thousands of bikers will gather at the Grundy County Fairgrounds in Morris before heading out to Marseilles to take in a 1pm memorial service. The service is to add names to the Middle East Conflicts Memorial Wall of soldiers killed in battle this past year.
Co-organizer Hank Bostelman says they’re adding around 400 names this year. It’s the lowest amount since they started adding names to the wall.

Relay for Life location changed

If you were planning on participating in the La Salle County Relay for Life, it’s being held at St. Anthony’s instead of Streator City Park.
Over 800 people have signed up to raise money for the 13th annual event.
Opening ceremonies are Friday at 6pm.
