Prison For Mom’s Role In La Salle Shooting

Posted by wlpo on June 12, 2009

Dawn Pratt was sentenced yesterday to 14 years in prison on two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. Prosecutors say she’s accountable for having her 14 year old son and another 13 year old boy from La Salle shoot Fabian Arness and Orlin Cano outside a house in La Salle last November. Arness and Cano recovered from their injuries.

Judge Cynthia Raccuglia admitted that she thinks Pratt has a mental disorder but it wasn’t bad enough to keep her out of prison. Pratt’s son and the other teen involved in the shooting already pled guilty and were given juvenile prison sentences.

Estranged Wife Pleads Not Guilty To Hiring A Hitman

Posted by wlpo on June 12, 2009

28 year old Christina Dent was arraigned yesterday on a charge of Solicitation of Murder for Hire. It’s a Class X felony with a possible sentence of 20 to 60 years in prison.

Dent was arrested last month after an undercover cop set up a meeting with her on the north side of Ottawa. The cop was acting like a hitman and after getting partial payment, he arrested Dent.

Prosecutors first heard about Dent’s plan when she approached a neighbor about hiring a hitman to kill her husband. Dent’s neighbor cooperated with police by having phone calls with Dent taped by police.

Dent was allegedly offering seven thousand dollars to kill her husband. She and her husband are separated and in the process of getting divorced.

Dent’s being held in the county jail on 500 thousand dollars bond.
