More Signage Headaches In Utica

Posted by wlpo on June 11, 2009

If you don’t follow signage rules in Utica, you may get a visit from the police.

Dorelle Denman runs the Willows Hotel in Utica and she recently put up three temporary banners advertising a new restaurant called “The Gathering Place.” The only problem was only one of the banners was approved by the Utica trustees.

Instead of sending a letter, Denman accused the board of “strongarming” her by sending a police officer to the Willows. Denman says she was even more upset because she had guests around when the cop showed up.

Village Trustee Ron Pawlak fired back at Denman saying she “basically gave the board the finger” by putting up the signs in spite of the board’s decision.

Denman now has a few weeks to take the banners down or possibly face a fine.
