The La Salle County Health Department says a crow found Monday in Lostant tested positive for West Nile. This is the first documented case of West Nile this year in La Salle County. The county had one bird test positive last year but no human cases.
The best way to prevent West Nile or any other mosquito-borne illness is to reduce exposure to mosquitoes. Some things to do are: avoid being outside between dusk and dawn; use insect repellent DEET; and remove any standing water around you.
