West Nile Virus Hits Area

The La Salle County Health Department says a crow found Monday in Lostant tested positive for West Nile.  This is the first documented case of West Nile this year in La Salle County.  The county had one bird test positive last year but no human cases.

The best way to prevent West Nile or any other mosquito-borne illness is to reduce exposure to mosquitoes.  Some things to do are: avoid being outside between dusk and dawn; use insect repellent DEET; and remove any standing water around you.

Fires Near Seatonville Could Be Intentional

The State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating two fires in the Seatonville area that happened Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

The first fire was called in by a driver on Interstate 80.  An outbuilding with several vehicles and machinery inside was burned down. 

Just hours after, an empty house was set on fire about a mile south of the earlier fire.  Investigators think a mattress was set on fire.

No one was hurt in the two fires.

Time To Pay Up

Just what you wanted to hear….property tax bills are due next week in La Salle County. 

 First installment of the taxes are due Thursday with the second round due September 9th. Over 66 thousand property tax bills in La Salle County were mailed last month.  

You can pay your taxes with a credit card, automatic withdrawal or by making a check out to the La Salle County Collector.
