La Salle County woman has swine flu

Posted by wlpo on June 3, 2009

The hype about swine flu isn’t what it was a month ago, but that doesn’t mean the virus has gone away.

It’s just arrived in La Salle County. The county health department found out Wednesday morning that a 22 year old woman in La Salle County has a confirmed case.

Jennie Barrie with the health department says they’re still trying to figure out where the woman would have contracted the flu and if anyone else could have been exposed to it.

Barrie says they can’t say how the woman is being treated for the illness or what her condition is.

Teen on parole for kidnapping arrested

Posted by wlpo on June 3, 2009

It was back to jail for a teen convicted last year of kidnapping another girl.

Police Tuesday night arrested 19 year old Alyssa Walzer of Utica during a traffic stop in La Salle. She was picked up on a parole violation warrant from the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Walzer was sentenced to three years in prison last July for her role in kidnapping and beating of a fellow teen in December 2007. Two other girls also pleaded guilty but Walzer was the only one receiving prison time due to her prior history.

Walzer was taken to the county jail.

Mayor refuses to renew liquor license for bar

Posted by wlpo on June 3, 2009

There’s one less place to get a beer in Ottawa.

Acting as liquor commissioner, Mayor Bob Eschbach Tuesday refused to renew a liquor license for Lorinda Korth who owns The Blarney Pub. Eschbach says in the last two years, undercover agents were able to buy cocaine at the pub with some of the sales made by pub employees. Eschbach says he didn’t take action last year because the state drug task force wanted him to hold off because of ongoing investigations.

Eschbach says there’s no evidence that Korth knew the drug sales were happening.
