La Salle Schools say farewell to McGuire

Students and faculty in the La Salle Elementary District said thanks and goodbye to their superintendent. An assembly at Northwest School Monday morning honored the retiring Dr. Joan McGuire.

McGuire came to the district in 1991 as a principal. She became the superintendent four years ago.

Dan Marenda, superintendant of Spring Valley Elementary, was hired Friday to replace her. Marenda was in Spring Valley for four years. Before that he was a principal with the Ottawa Elementary district.

Marenda will be meet with former superintend Al Humpage and Lincoln Junior High principal Jerry Carls during the transition.

The La Salle district next must hire a new principal to replace Northwest principal Egan Colbrese who’s accepted a job near the Quad Cities.

Wenona Woman Killed In Crash Near Streator

One person was killed and four others hospitalized after a weekend crash near Streator.      

State Police say 44-year old Penny Eggers of Wenona was pronounced dead at St. Francis Medical Center after a crash on Route 17 in Livingston County.

Eggers was riding in a car driven by Jennifer Wargo of Streator when Wargo allegedly turned into the path of Harold Kennell of Wenona.  Wargo and another passenger of hers, Emily Wargo of Streator were all taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.  Kennell and a passenger of his, Louise Kennell of Wenona were also taken to St. Mary’s.

Teen charged for knife threat

An argument between two teens in Peru ended with one of the boys being taken to the county detention home.

Police say a 15 year old boy used a knife to threatened another teen Sunday night in Peru.

The 15 year old faces charges for aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and unlawful use of a weapon. He’s being held in the La Salle County Juvenile Detention Home.

Spring Valley and Ladd plan garage sales

Do you enjoy going to garage sales? You’ll find a few in Bureau County later this week.

Spring Valley City Wide Garage sales are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

If you would like to hold a garage sale, tell the city clerk’s office today and they’ll place you on the map.

If you’d just like to go garage “sailing”, maps including the location of sales will be available at the city clerk’s office Wednesday.

Ladd is also holding village wide garage sales Saturday. You’ll be able to find maps at Casey’s, North Central Bank and the village hall.
