Ottawa Man In Serious Condition After Crash

Peter Dilley is at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria after he was knocked from his motorcycle yesterday afternoon. 

According to police, Meghan Patarozzi of Ottawa was on Route 23 when she failed to yield and turned into Dilley.  Patarozzi flipped her car but wasn’t hurt.  She was ticketed for failing to yield.

Train causes traffic problems in Mendota

Crossing the tracks in Mendota shouldn’t be a problem anymore. Several crossing were closed for much of Wednesday morning after a wheel broke on a train car, stranding the train.

Steve Forsberg with Burlington Northern Santa Fe says they were able to fix the wheel before noon. After making minor track repairs, the track reopened around 3pm.

What caused the wheel to break isn’t clear yet.

Route 178 Getting Worked On

If you traveled during the weekend, you may have noticed a sign indicating a road work funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. 

Another one of those projects and signs will be going up in Utica.
Route 178 from Route 6 and north of Interstate 80 is being resurfaced.  The work is scheduled to begin today, weather permitting.  

The 300 thousand dollar project is being done by U-C Paving of Peru.  It’s expected to be completed by June.

Car Break-Ins In Peru

Peru Police are investigating several reports of unlocked cars being broken into yesterday.

Cars were broken into at 2nd, 5th, 12th and Fulton Streets along with Ashland Court.  Some of things stolen were an I-Pod, cash, purses, and jumper cables.

Construction planned for Rt 251 near Mendota

Route 251 north of Mendota will be under construction so workers can replace a bridge and install box culverts.

Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday at the bridge over Pike Creek north of Route 34 and the structure over the drainage ditch south of North 45th Road.

If you take that way, expect to find temporary traffic signals.

The $940,000 project is being done by D Construction. It should be completed by the end of August.

Drug charges after stop in Putnam County

Cocaine and ecstasy is what police say they found after stopping a woman from Highland Park in Putnam County.

Police used the drug dog to search Alexandra Thomas’s car Friday evening. They say they found 7.5 grams of cocaine, 50 pills they think are ecstasy and 8.5 grams of marijuana.

Thomas was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of cannabis, and drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the Putnam County Jail with her bond set at $250,000.

Peru and Spring Valley hold Memorial Day services

If you’re looking for a way to observe Memorial Day, there are a couple of services taking place in the Illinois Valley.

The Peru Veterans Memorial Group holds their ceremony 11am Monday in Washington Park. You can hear it live on AM 1220 WLPO.

The Spring Valley VFW, Spring Valley American Legion, and Valley Memorial Park hold their ceremony 2pm Monday in Valley Memorial Park. It’ll be moved to JFK School if it rains.

Crash kills two in Streator

Two are dead and a man is hospitalized after a pickup truck hit a tree and rolled onto its side in Streator.

Police say 46 year old Jaime Arevalo of Streator was driving when he crashed into a tree near Bluff and Bloomington Streets just after 9pm Friday.

Also killed in the crash was 24 year old Rafael Rico of Spring Valley.

45 year old Juan Mendoza of Streator is being treated at St. Francis Medical Center. He was last reported in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation.

Teen Falls At Mattheissen State Park

A teenager from Chillicothe was flown to Peoria after falling at Mattheissen State Park.

Conservation Police say Eric Mall fell 20 to 35 feet as he was climbing behind some waterfalls at Mattheissen on Tuesday night.  He was initially taken to IVCH before he was flown to St. Francis Medical Center for head injuries. 

Levi Bannister of Chillicothe and Peter Schadid of Peoria were climbing with Mall and carried Mall up to a parking lot after he fell.  Bannister and Schadid were ticketed for hiking off the trails.

Boating On The Illinois River Not Suggested

Memorial Day plans include boating or fishing?

Kevin Eubanks with the Army Corps of Engineers at Starved Rock says the Illinois River is open to recreational activity but he says it’s not a good idea.  Eubanks says the river is still extremely high and large trees have been seen floating down the river which could do heavy damage to boats. 

The Illinois is closed to recreation downriver from Chillicothe.
