Construction planned for Rt 251 near Mendota

Route 251 north of Mendota will be under construction so workers can replace a bridge and install box culverts.

Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday at the bridge over Pike Creek north of Route 34 and the structure over the drainage ditch south of North 45th Road.

If you take that way, expect to find temporary traffic signals.

The $940,000 project is being done by D Construction. It should be completed by the end of August.

Drug charges after stop in Putnam County

Cocaine and ecstasy is what police say they found after stopping a woman from Highland Park in Putnam County.

Police used the drug dog to search Alexandra Thomas’s car Friday evening. They say they found 7.5 grams of cocaine, 50 pills they think are ecstasy and 8.5 grams of marijuana.

Thomas was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of cannabis, and drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the Putnam County Jail with her bond set at $250,000.

Peru and Spring Valley hold Memorial Day services

If you’re looking for a way to observe Memorial Day, there are a couple of services taking place in the Illinois Valley.

The Peru Veterans Memorial Group holds their ceremony 11am Monday in Washington Park. You can hear it live on AM 1220 WLPO.

The Spring Valley VFW, Spring Valley American Legion, and Valley Memorial Park hold their ceremony 2pm Monday in Valley Memorial Park. It’ll be moved to JFK School if it rains.
