Two Area Teens On The Mend

Two area teenagers involved in a fatal accident last week are improving in the hospital.

15 year old Danielle Meirhofer of Minonk has been upgraded from critical to serious condition and 15 year old Makenzie Gensler of Toluca has been upgraded from serious to fair condition.  They were taken to St. Francis Medical Center after the crash Thursday evening outside Rutland.

The accident killed one of the two drivers, 16 year old Jaclyn Park of Minonk.  The other driver, 17 year old Brianna Palmore of Minonk has been treated and released.  She was ticketed for failing to yield.

Village Trying To Attract Civic Center

Utica Mayor Fred Esmond says he is in talks with a developer from St. Louis to build a civic center in the village. The village recently annexed over 300 acres into the village just north of Love’s Travel Stop.  Developer Bill Galberg owns the land and Esmond says he’s open to building a civic center to house concerts, sports and trade shows. 

Esmond says he approached Galberg about the idea and now just has to prove to him that people will use the civic center enough to make it worth it.

Electronics drop-off Saturday in Ottawa

Have some old electronics you want to get rid of?

A one-day only electronics pickup is this Saturday at the Etna Road Governmental building in Ottawa. You can bring your stuff to be recycled from 9am until 1pm.

Things that’ll be taken free of charge include: computers; printers; dvd players; speakers; and telephones. There will be a charge to take televisions.

Ottawa man indicted for cocaine

A man accused of having cocaine, cash and a loaded shotgun remains in jail after being arrested last month. And now Daniel Gayan’s been indicted.

Police searched his home in Ottawa after they say a man was seen selling cocaine.

Police say Gayan had five grams of cocaine, drug packing materials, a loaded shotgun and prescription pills.

He’s being held in the La Salle County Jail, facing a charge of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
