Waltham Elementary Growth Issues

Posted by wlpo on May 12, 2009

What do you think of schools using trailers, or portable classrooms?

The Waltham Elementary Board recently decided to pass on getting a portable building from the Peru Elementary District.  Waltham Superintendent Kristen School says they’ll instead make due with the space they have at both buildings which isn’t much.  Schools says “it’s doable, but very tight and not ideal.”

Peru takes step towards wind power

Posted by wlpo on May 12, 2009

The skyline north of Peru could one day include a wind tower. That’s if the area is found to be suitable for a turbine. To find out, the city wants to do a year long study that would include a test tower to see if they could put up a real tower.

The city council Monday night gave the electric department the green light to apply for a state clean energy grant.

Jim Potthoff oversees the electric department. He says the grant could be for up to $30,000. The study is estimated to cost between $35,000 to $40,000.

Potthoff says any wind turbine would have to be located outside of the airports safety zone and would likely be outside of city limits. The study would determine where it would go.

They have to submit their application by mid-July.
