Local pantry receives boost from annual food drive

Posted by wlpo on May 11, 2009

Times are tough, but that hasn’t stopped people from opening up their cabinets and donating to the area food pantry.

The U.S. Postal service Saturday collected food items during their annual food drive. The food is being donated to local pantries.

At the Illinois Valley Food Pantry in La Salle, they’re expecting over 16,000 pounds of food.

Donna Hess with the food pantry says it’s more than they received last year. She says they rely on the annual collection to carry them through the summer.
