Illinois confirms 82 cases of swine flu

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) – Illinois health officials are reporting 82 confirmed cases of swine flu. Today’s update is a big jump from yesterday when there were nine confirmed cases. That’s because Illinois began doing its own confirmation tests over the weekend. The Illinois Department of Public Health says testing now shows 82 confirmed and 40 probable cases of the virus.

Oglesby Talking About Suing Former Chief

The Oglesby City Council could be turning the tables on a former police chief. The council has been talking behind closed doors about filing a civil lawsuit against former Police Chief Tom Martin over apparent missing money. According to minutes from recent closed session meetings, almost five thousand dollars is unaccounted for from the city’s Drug Traffic Prevention Fund. Also another four thousand dollars was apparently spent by the city for a Cadillac without the title being switched over from Martin to the city. Martin sued the city a couple years ago when he wasn’t reappointed chief. The sides settled out of court.

Former Spring Valley Chief Files Lawsuit

Change of mayors in Spring Valley isn’t going over smooth with everyone. Mayor Cliff Banks appointment of Kevin Sangston as police chief to replace Mike Miroux has brought on a lawsuit from Miroux. Banks won’t comment about the suit.

City Engineer Out In La Salle

Mayor Jeff Grove took over in La Salle last night and he wants a new engineer. Grove says he has a different philosophy than Pam Broviak so he’s replaced her with Assistant City Engineer Mike Furlan.
